What can I expect to see during the Lanzarote North tour?
The main attractions of the tour are Mirador del Río and Jameos del agua, which both offer a unique blend of art, nature and architecture for you to enjoy. But before all of this and after being collected at the various designated collection points, you will firstly head towards the mesmerizing village of Teguise to begin this amazing tour.
Teguise village tour and Nuestra señora de Guadalupe church
This old and historical village is bursting at the seams with history and culture. Between its cobbled streets, typically Canarian architecture and 16th century built church, there is lots to learn in this small but captivating village. Upon walking its streets, make sure to look out for ‘Calle de la Sangre’ (Blood street), a small alleyway famous for a violent and historical event that took place many years ago.
Village of Haría and “The valley of a thousand palms”
Continuing the tour and heading further north, you will arrive at the village of Haría, home of the artist and sculptor César Manrique. In transit, you will admire the valley of a thousand palms (El valle de la mil palmeras), one of the greenest areas of lanzarote and also learn of its origins and creation.
El Mirador del Río
Next, traveling through the villages of Yé and Máguez, you will arrive at the breathtakingly stunning Mirador del Río. Designed by César Manrique, this beautiful location is at an impressive 474 meters above sea level , creating once in a lifetime panoramic views of the surrounding ocean as well as the island of La Graciosa. Here you will see the “Río” (river) like stretch of sea, separating lanzarote from La Graciosa. The Lookout or ‘Mirador’ is located at “El Risco de Famara”, a location famous for its hikes and impressive views.
Jameos del Agua
From here, the next stop on the Lanzarote tour, bypassing La Corona Volcano and Malpaís de la Corona, is Jameos del Agua, the second Manrique attraction of the day. Here you can experience the unique and underground caves, which were formed centuries ago from the collapsing of lava tubes. Here you will see the intriguing yet non-invasive blend of architecture, nature and art that was so cleverly and carefully integrated by César Manrique.
Aloe Vera plantation
Next stop on this Lanzarote north tour is a trip to an aloe vera plantation. Here you will be fortunate enough to learn about the cultivation, harvesting and processing of such an economically important plant to the Canarias. As well as this, you will even have the opportunity to taste it, to fully understand the health benefits it can also provide.
Villages of Mala and Guatiza
Heading back towards home, you will pass by Mala and Guatiza, two more idyllic and quaint villages learning about the cochineal insect, used in the formation of natural dyes.
