If you love a good sunset then Lanzarote won't let you down. Whether it's a clear sky, or a stunning high cloud formation, the colours that blend day into night are a sight to be seen. But where are the best places to watch the sun go down in Lanzarote?
With its volcanic landscape and some impressive terrains and landscapes there is certainly no shortage of amazing places to watch the sun set in Lanzarote. As you might expect most of the best places to watch a Lanzarote sunset can be found on the west of the island where you get a spectacular display of colours as the sun disappears 'into the ocean'. Here is the TravelON.World list of best places to watch the Lanzarote sunset.
Mirador del Rio
Located some 500m high in the Risco de Famara cliffs, Mirador del Rio is a stunning Cesar Manrique inspired attraction offering visitors a breathtaking panoramic view over the neighbouring Canary Island of La Graciosa and the Chino Archipelago. And as you might image, it's a great place to watch a sunset.
As the sun goes down watch the colours of La Graciosa change with golden hues as the sun slowly slips away to end another day.
Gran Hotel, Arrecife
The one spot that's not on the West of the island for us is the 17th Floor of the Arrecife Gran Hotel. Enjoy a drink and a cake as the sun sets behind the Lanzarote mountains. You also get to see the airport from here and watch the planes arrive and depart into the golden skies.
Faro Park, Playa Blanca
Faro Park is an area of Playa Blanca that is often overlooked, but miss out at your peril. Not only is there a great selection of bars and restaurants here, it's also a great place to go for a coastal walk and watch the sun set. Enjoy how the light illuminates the pools down at the waters edge, before heading back to enjoy a cocktail and meal in a great choice of eateries just a short walk away.
Montana Roja, Playa Blanca
If you prefer to watch your sunsets from an elevated position then a hike up Montana Roja is a great option. The advantage of this location is you get to see the Fuerteventura to the south and a panoramic view over the south east of the Playa Blanca resort. If you decide to watch the sunset here then remember it can be tricky descending Montana Roja in low light so be prepared with a good torch and walking. boots.
Famara and The Riscos
Famara, the surf and water-sports capital of the island, has a lovely relaxed vibe about. You might have seen the picture postcard of the cliffs of Famara illuminated by the sunset - but you can't beat seeing it in real life. Feel the energy of your surroundings as you stroll along the huge beach as the sun goes down. Watch out for reflections along the way as the display of colours in the sky is reflected at the waters edge.
Lanzarote Sunset Boat Trip
If you fancy something completely different then why not book a Lanzarote sunset boat trip. Spend the early evening with loved ones and enjoy a glass of champagne onboard a luxury boat or Catamaran as the sun goes down and illuminates the sky, reflecting beautifully in the water around you.
Sunset is also a popular time for dolphin spotting, and whilst not guaranteed, seeing these magical creatures in the natural habitat really enhances the whole sunset experience.
Balcón de Femes
Overlooking Playa Blanca and Fuerteventura, Balcon de Femes is a favourite spot with tourist and locals when it comes to watching the sun go down. On a really clear day, with the right equipment its also possible to spot Mount Teide on Tenerife from here as well.
El Golfo / Los Hervideros
One of the great things about watching the sunset at El Golfo is the choice of restaurants that line the sea front, so if you prefer a more relaxed sunset experience this could be the spot for you. Just down the road from El Golfo is Los Hervideros which is also a great place to watch the sun go down as the setting hues light up the rugged coastline of the 'boiling pots'.
If you're in the El Golfo area at sunset then you should also check out the green lake. The colour changes against the volcano walls here, as well as the green lake itself, are simply stunning.
