Puerto Del Carmen is the largest, and most popular, tourist resort in Lanzarote. The main strip is lined with a diverse selection of bars and restaurants and runs in parallel to a large sandy beach which is popular with families, couples of water sport enthusiasts.
The large resort of Puerto Del Carmen is split into what is commonly known as two areas - the old town and the new town. The new town is largely built around the large strip, or Avenida de las Playas, that is where you'll find a range of bars and restaurants to suit all tastes. The Avenida de las Playas also runs along the large Playa Grande beach, famous for it's golden sands and clear waters.
The old town of Puerto Del Carmen is a little more traditional. Here you'll find more restaurants and bars, along with a lot of apartment style accommodation, and the harbour where you can find many Lanzarote boat trips to suit all budgets. The Old Town definitely has a bit of a different feel to it compared to the Avenida and newer areas of Puerto Del Carmen, maybe offering a slightly more relaxed vibe. Like the new town, the old town is also built around quite a hilly area, so can be quite a challenge to get around.
