Lanzarote Resort Focus - Playa Blanca
We visit Playa Blanca, the southern most holiday resort in Lanzarote, and bring you the low-down on where to eat, things to do and the best activities in town.
Playa Blanca is a popular resort in the South of the Island of Lanzarote. It stretches for around 6km across the Southern tip of the island and is the closest town to the neighbouring island of Fuerteventura.
Playa Blanca is split up into three main areas. The town itself is central and where you will find the main promenade, high street and a great selection of bars, restaurants and live music venues. The Marina Rubicon can be found to the east of the town, and alongside the expensive boats and yachts you'll find some fantastic venues for evening meals, afternoon cocktails in the sun and the Playa Blanca Market that takes place every Wednesday and Saturday morning. The west of the town is fairly more residential, however on Calle Irlanda in Faro Park you'll find some amazing bars and restaurants - all of which are must visit, especially if you are staying in this part of the town.
Playa Blanca Beaches
Playa Blanca has 3 main beaches in the town itself, and is the closest resort to the infamous Papagayo Beaches. The smallest beach can be found in the centre of town and is called Playa Blanca. It's known to the the locals as 'the town beach'. Playa Dorada is arguably the most popular beach, and where you'll find sunbeams and parasols for hire, water sports, Jet Skis and bars and restaurants close by in the Papagayo Centre. Of course, fans of Flamingo Beach will argue that their favourite beach is the better of the three, offering a sheltered lagoon for swimming, golden sands and a small cafe / snack bar. Scuba Diving is also very popular at Flamingo Beach and the surrounding waters.

Hotels and Holiday Villas in Playa Blanca
You'll never be short of finding good quality accommodation in Playa Blanca. A number of hotels line the promenade in a non-obtrusive manor and private villas are popular with regular Playa Blanca visitors. There are hotels suitable for families, with some excellent facilities and entertainment and also adult only all inclusive hotels where you can relax and unwind from the stresses of the 'real world'.

Playa Blanca Nightlife and Entertainment
Whilst Playa Blanca isn't necessarily the 'Party Central' of Lanzarote, it has a high standard of nightlife including great restaurants, bars and live music and Karaoke venues. If it's live sports you're looking for you won't be disappointed with various bars showing games through the week. You might even find a bar themed for your team!

Eating out in Playa Blanca is a real pleasure. No matter what cuisine you fancy, there will be plenty of restaurants to chose from. From traditional Indian Cuisine to fine Italian dining, there is something for everyone. And let's not forget the local culinary delights and Tapas Bars. Foodies are completely spoilt for choice.
If post-dinner entertainment is on the cards, you can head to any number of the bars and clubs with live musicians. Live music usually finishes around 11.30 and is quite rare to go beyond midnight unless it's a special evening such as New Years, but if you're still in the mood for a party then you can head to the Papagayo centre where you'll find a couple of nightclubs open until the early hours.
Trips and Excursions from Playa Blanca
If you're staying in Playa Blanca but looking to explore the island then you'll find a great range of excursions, days out and activities available in the resort. Don't worry if you don't have a car, most of the trips will offer a collection and drop-off service at, or very near to, your accommodation. We recommend that you book your trips in advance to avoid disappointment on the day.
Car Hire in Playa Blanca
Another way to get out and explore the island is to hire a car. Again, due to demand we strongly recommend you do this before you visit. It's quite common for people to book their car hire from the airport so they can make their own way to Playa Blanca, but it's also possible to collect your car from the resort itself.
Visiting the neighbouring island, Fuerteventura
Fuerteventura is just short ferry crossing from Playa Blanca, and a popular day trip with holiday makers to Lanzarote. It's easy to book a return ferry either online or from the Playa Blanca Harbour (not to be confused with the Marina Rubicon) and you can even book full excursions to explore the North of Fuerteventura during your visit
What draws people to Playa Blanca?
If you're thinking of taking a full-on party holiday, then Playa Blanca might not be the best resort in Lanzarote for you, however there are still plenty of things to do in Playa Blanca. It does have a vibrant nightlife but it's more geared for the restaurants and bars that have an earlier close time than venues in other resorts such as Puerto del Carmen. There are some fantastic beaches and it's a great place to kick back, relax and recharge before returning to the routine of day to day life.
