Did you know you can go Dolphin Spotting in Lanzarote? Although actual sightings aren't guaranteed there are some great boat excursions that take you around the southern headland of the island and have great success in spotting pods of dolphins that swim alongside the boat.
Dolphin Spotting in Lanzarote
You might not be aware that Lanzarote is a great place for Dolphin spotting, yet there are a number of excellent boat charters that have high rates of success when it comes to sightings. There is something very special about the experience of a pod of dolphins swimming alongside a boat in their natural habitat and for many a sighting in the wild is a once in a life time opportunity.
And for those of you who don't want to take the chance out at sea, there is the option to see Dolphins at the Rancho Texas Lanzarote park in Puerto del Carmen. You can see the dolphins as part of a standard park ticket or if you want to actually interact with the dolphins they offer an experience ticket. You can, if you wish, also interact with Sea Lions and Dolphins as part of your day at Rancho Texas Park.
Lanzarote Whale Watching, Sunset & Dolphins cruise
Yes, the name says everything you need to know about this excursion. Operated by Biosfera Jet, this is quite possibly the best Lanzarote dolphin spotting boat trip when it comes to your chances of seeing these marine mammals in their natural habitat. The operator has had huge success delighting guests with sightings and knows the best times and places to get a glimpse of the loveable and intelligent creatures in seas around Lanzarote. What's more, you'll get to capture a beautiful Lanzarote sunset whilst out at sea with a glass of champagne.
Los Lobos Island by Biosfera jet
Operated by the same company as the Lanzarote Whale Watching, Sunset and Dolphins Cruise, this tour takes you over to the island of Los Lobos, so is very different to some of the other boat trips that operate here in Lanzarote. Los Lobos is Fuerteventura territory, and an inhabited island. It's a protected island with a very special feel to it. It's great for a bit of hiking, or just lazing on the beach, and as the trip is a bit further out to sea than others there is a great chance of spotting a variety of marine life from flying fish, to of course, Dolphins.
Papagayo Cat Private Hire Catamaran
If you prefer your boat trips in the comfort of your own family or friendship bubble, then the Papagayo Catamaran is a great option for you. And yes, they have experience spotting dolphins on their cruises. This lovely little Catamaran can accommodate up to 12 guests and runs private tours at different times of the day. Depending on the time of year they also operate the option of a sunset cruise. One of the things we love about this trip is the intimacy and of course, the fantastic freshly made tapas on board and all-inclusive mini bar. What's not to love about that?
Papagayo Catamaran Sailings
There are two larger Lanzarote Catamaran trips that sail around the headland from Puerto del Carmen and Puerto Calero which is prime dolphin spotting territory. Although the operating times of these sailings isn't always the best time to spot dolphins, there have been sightings, which only enhance the amazing experience that these luxury Lanzarote catamaran trips have to offer.
Rancho Texas Lanzarote Park
Although not for everyone, you'll find dolphins at Rancho Texas Lanzarote Park in Puerto del Carmen. You can see them as part of a day ticket to the park, which gives you access to a whole host of shows, attractions, water park and more, or if you really want to get up close and personal they offer a separate dolphin interaction experience ticket (if you want even more you can also interact with Sea Lions as well). This is a completely different experience to seeing them out in the wild, but it is an opportunity to see dolphins whilst in Lanzarote, and for that reason it makes it to our list.
Lanzarote Dolphin Spotting
So there we have it. Lanzarote is actually a really great place for dolphin spotting, and whilst they might not be as common as some of our sister islands like Gran Canaria and Tenerife, it makes it even more special when sightings occur. If it wasn't already, make sure you add dolphin spotting on your things to do in Lanzarote when you visit.
